#MuscleMonday! Today let’s look at the Tibialis Anterior!

Located on the front of the shin, the origins for the Tibialis Anterior muscle are on the lateral condyle and the top 2/3rds of the front of the tibia, it runs down the shin just lateral to the tibia. Just above the ankle, the muscular body of the Tibialis Anterior forms a long tendon that extends across the medial (inner) side of the ankle and into the foot. In the foot, the tendon inserts on the first metatarsal and first cuneiform bones.

The Tibialis Anterior functions act to dorsiflex the foot by pulling the top of the foot towards the shin. The tibialis anterior also provides a slight inversion of the foot by pulling the soul of the foot inward toward the center of the body.
